I see several things. First, Santorum polls, overall, about the same as Romney nationally, but, when you look at potential swing states, neither seems to be able to come close to Nero (see MI and WI). In Republican states (AZ) both best Nero. Even Paul beats Nero in AZ. Newt has big poll number problems.
One or another's "electability" or lack thereof, is not supported by any of these numbers.

I suppose we have already reached the tipping point. I realize the GOP candidates are lackluster, but if that many people are even considering voting for Obama and his destructive policies, then I take that as a sign the nation is more or less content with the way things are.

Those states are among the ones that will be fucked the hardest and deepest by an Obama second term.

You'd have to go back to Hayes/Tilden 1876 for a case where the popular vote difference (about 3%) wasn't enough for a victory. In the more recent Bush/Gore case the difference was only 0.5%. It wouldn't be easy to lose by 4% of the popular vote and still win the election. In fact it would an historic first.

Wisconsin voters are certifiably insane, and Michigan voters think The Dear Reader has saved them with the GM and Chrysler bailouts. Anyone suspected of not voting in the right fashion in Pennsylvania will be deterred by New Black Panthers.

The last telephone polling I received ended about two questions in when I said Obama is doing a lousy job. Not the answer they were looking for.
