Montana Man Charged With Animal Cruelty After Dog Records .348 Blood Alcohol Level

A Montana man who allegedly fed vodka to a dog was arrested on an animal cruelty charge after investigators found the animal’s blood alcohol content to be more than four times the legal limit (for humans).
I'm not sure how that would be considered cruelty.

Schrier was charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty, as well as felony drug possession after cops found a bag containing Hydrocodone pills on the ground where he was standing outside the bar. He is currently jailed on $30,000 bail and scheduled to appear in court today.

Arly II is now recovering at a Humane Society animal shelter.

The dog will be better in the morning. Schrier, not so much.

I did not realize it was against the law to get a dog drunk or stand next to hydrocodone.

The same amount of alcohol that would produce a good buzz in a 180 pound human could very well be lethal to a 40 pound dog.

I’d consider giving Fido alcohol in order to see the “comic” effects of said dog staggering around for shear entertainment purposes along the same lines of giving Fido rat poison because it’s just so “funny” to see him convulsing and foaming at the mouth. So yes, I’d consider both cruelty.

As usual, the comments are way better than the article. People wishing torture and death on a man who got a dog drunk. And they think they are the virtuous ones.

Most people's virtue extends insofar as it is not personally discomforting.

I had a miniature Weiner dog, that would not touch alchohol, he hated the smell, BIG time, BUT, one day a friend of mine brought over some double malt scotch, I had a glass of it. I was sitting on some stairs and we were talking. I put my glass down, then picked it up 2 minutes later, and it was gone. I was WTF? Looked at my dog, and there he is, literally walking sideways.

Scared me to death, he drank at least a full ounce of double malt scotch, about an hour later, he came back for more. I didn't give it to him of course, but seriously, the dog had High tastes.

Once a former housemate had a cat who would, literally, walk down my arm to lap at a tumbler of whiskey. He never got noticeably drunk, I just assumed he was curious.

But in dog rules it's still legal.

And he's already got his head out the window, so you don't have to worry about that.

My late cat once knocked over a brandy snifter [there was a bit left in it, but not much]. He became interested, sniffed around a bit, and then started licking. But he would never touch vulgar vodka.

There was a cat that hung around our apartment complex. He'd wander in and out of apartments whose doors were open. We were smoking some grass once when the cat came in. Someone took a paper bag, blew some pot smoke into the bag, and stuck the cat's head in the bag. The cat fought, pulled his head out of the bag and ran out the door. Ten minutes later, he was back and trying to stick his head in the paper bag.

The element of forcing the cat's head into that bag spoils the story. Ideally, such animal behavior should be entirely voluntary.

If he hadn't breathed it involuntarily the first time, it would have detracted from his eagerness to breathe it the second time.

We had a cat that liked to stick her head in my grungy old tennis shoes. The goofy expression she had on her face when she came up for air was hilarious!

The story would have gained much if the cat was to sit next to the guy, sniffed the air, and then elbowed him, 'let me puff'.

Yah, that'd be great. Except then the story wouldn't be the truth anymore.
