Who we are and what we do

I found you!!!

Wed Jun 06, 2007 12:30 pm

Used to lurk on Free Republic for the evolution threads because in my section of the Bible Belt it really helps to have all the info you can when creationists try to take over the school board. Then I was off the net for about five months and when I got back on (2 weeks ago), so many of you were gone. I was bewildered. And bothered. And bereft.

But through liberal luck and Democrat determination  , I found you! Although I can't find Patrick Henry's guide to arguing with creationists yet. (I now, I know, I should have copied it.)

At any rate, political differences aside, I've always liked your approach to science -- although I fear there will be fewer games of "whack-a-mole" to entertain me in the wee hours of the morning.

You mean the List-O-Links? There's a link to it in this thread.

PatrickHenry's List-O-Links was removed from FR when his home page was trashed (twice).

The List was reborn as the as the Un-Missing Links on our Wiki. The link to it is in the first thread of the "DC University" forum:

Thanks for joining. PH's homepage lives on on my FR homepage. I copied it (and some others did too) when JimRob deleted it. But since I haven't posted there for months no-one ever looks at it.... Full of wonderful knowledge as a counterpoint to the unknowledge purveyed by the fundys.

Toaster oven would probably be more appropriate for me.

Talk to your bank about the toaster.

In the meantime, I'll hold the beer for you (dark & German, please).

Since you mention dark German beer, I have to ask, what brands? I seldom drink beer because I find most American beers simply uninteresting, and I'm not crazy about bottled dark beer.

But every once in a while I find myself in a restaurant that serves dark draft German beer. The trouble is, such places are few and far between. I've never been able to remember the name(s) of the beers I like.

American microbrewed beer, in my opinion, is superior to German beer in both quality and variety. In this relatively small metropolitan area, one can choose between a dozen very different local beers from local brewpubs, and scores of bottled microbrews from all over the region. Within five miles, you can have everything from a very live, as in crawl-back-up-your-throat-live. hefeweizen, to a smooth, chocolatey vanilla porter, to an IPA with enough hops to make it to Mars and back, and forget India. For all the hype, German beer is rather stereotyped, and a bit bland.

Then again, I love Florida, but you can't get decent beer there. There are folks in Florida who think Shiner Bock is exotic.
