Who we are and what we do

Welcome,
Beer and cookies are served in the Piltdown Room at 4pm. Wild goats are available on the balcony for sexual purposes if you wish. Please contact our morale officer for further details.
You have joined a non boring group of people. All here are interested in science and are opposed to luddism of all kinds. Politically this group is populated by conservatives, libertarians and centrists. There is a wide variety of religious opinion from atheists to Buddists to Christians and Jews. No one however treats religious texts as scientific texts.
Debate here can be rather spirited but is generally kept within civil bounds. Just! For that our heroic moderators are to be thanked. Be warned that thread drift is a revered tradition here.

This is why all new arrivals need to be fumigated and isolated for twenty-five days.

Welcome aboard. We have openings in the petting zoo division. Be warned, the miniature horses do not entirely live up to their name.

"Adam" is a good name for a New Man (or a Batman).

Say, is that a palindrome?
namtab a or nam new a rof... evidently not.

The first time I ever watched Monty Python's Flying Circus was on the CBC, before the show got popular in the states. I remember thinking at the time that the jokes I got were so good, the ones I didn't get must be because you had to be a Brit to know what they are basing the joke on. Probably half the show, I figured, went right over my head.
Reading Darwin Central is a lot like that. If the reply isn't some insider thing, it's likely to be based on shared experiences a generation or two removed from mine. Maybe that's why there aren't many flame wars on DC: there's no guarantee anyone knows what the obscure comments mean.

Starts a thread with his first post, saying hello, and disapears?
OK, why do I not feel confident here?
